Southeast Missouri State University works to helps students succeed during finals week

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) -The end of the year brings different emotions for college students, excitement for Christmas break, but also the stress of finals week.
We spoke with staff members at SEMO about how the university helps students get ready for finals week, and job placement after graduation.
The director for learning assistance at SEMO, Jennifer Weiss discussing how the university is getting their students ready for final exams. “We like to take the holistic approach to students preparing. We think about wellness, we think about time management strategies, individual learning.” Says Weiss. “relax, breathe, make a plan, manage the time that you have set goals, achievable, realistic goals. At this point.”
After finals are over the best part Weiss says is getting to hear about the success stories from their students each and every year. “It’s exciting when the student comes back in and they want to meet with the learning assistant and tell them what their grade was on the test or how well that they did, or just understanding the concepts so much more,” says Weiss.
Dan Presson, the assistance vice president of economic and work force development says he encourages students to prepare for the work force while still in school.
“Now is the time to look for those jobs. Now is the time to work on your resume. No better time than present to get started on those things,” says Presson.
Presson says he strives to help students get plugged into local communities.
“We’re always working with regional employers and our regional students to make sure that our workforce is as strong as it can be in southeast Missouri, because I never want someone to leave this region for a job that’s right here in our own backyard, because Southeast Missouri is a great place to be and we want to make sure that we’re keeping people and connecting people to the jobs that are right here.”
