Southeast MO State University holds career expo for students, alumni

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Southeast Missouri State University hosted a Career Expo Wednesday for current Southeast students and alumni.

It was at the Show-Me Center in Cape Girardeau located at 1333 N. Sprigg from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

“This is why a student goes to college,” said Dan Presson, assistant vice president of Economic and Workforce Development.

He says more than 140 employers, recruiters and schools attend the career fair to recruit students for potential internship and full-time job opportunities.

“We bring loads of employers to campus, that are coming to this university and that are coming to this community, specifically to hire SEMO students and alumni,” said Presson.

Jake Colyott is a senior at the Southeast. He appreciates the initiative the school takes in helping students get to that next step.

“Just trying to find out what careers are out there that are available, see where my skills fit in with those careers,” said Colyott.

Job seekers are looking for talent everywhere and in everyone. Making connections that result in gainful employment is vital, and so is helping students move forward with their aspirations.

“Cause you never know what’s out there,” said Colyott. “You never know what companies are looking for applicants, you never know where your skills might fit in with those companies and the jobs, they have that are available and the careers as well.”
