Southeast MO State continues investigation into wire fraud against university

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Southeast Missouri State University is continuing the investigation into wire fraud committed against the University in coordination with local and federal authorities.

It involved the theft of money and not data, according to the university.

The university reminds the public and the university community that there continues to be no indication that any personal records of students, faculty or staff were compromised by this action.

The university has no information to suggest that any employee was involved in criminal activity.

There is also no information to suggest that the incident involves any capital project currently underway, or recently completed, at the university, according to a statement from the university.

“The University takes seriously its role as a public entity and wants to assure the public that this incident does not jeopardize any current strategic initiative, project, or other activity at the University,” according to Southeast.
