Southern IL man pleads guilty to attempted 1st-degree murder
JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A southern Illinois man pleaded guilty Tuesday to attempted first-degree murder.
Cody Simon, 21, pleaded guilty on May 21 to attempted first-degree murder.
His case was originally set for jury trial this month, according to Jackson County State’s Attorney Joseph A. Cervantez.
The Carbondale Police Department responded to the 900 block of East Park Street in Carbondale at 12:07 a.m. on February 21 for a report of a battery taking place.
Officers found a victim with multiple stab wounds.
The victim was rushed to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale with serious injuries.
Witnesses said that Simon had stabbed the victim multiple times during a personal dispute.
Simon was arrested ater that morning. The Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office charged him with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of aggravated battery.
Simon is scheduled to be sentenced on August 21, 2024.
He faces six to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
State’s Attorney Cervantez led the prosecution.
The Carbondale Police Department led the investigation.
