Southern Illinois University offering help with FAFSA

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – This week Southern Illinois University is helping students navigate changes to financial aid.

The university is hosting a workshop at Morris Library to help students fill out the FAFSA form and adjust to its changes.

Lizzie Harper and other members of the SIU financial team are on hand to assist any students who may need help, no matter what school they go to.

Harper said this is an unusual year in terms of the number of major changes to the FAFSA this year, and she said she gets a great sense of fulfillment when helping students work through any issues they may have.

“Whenever I was a student here at SIU, the current financial aid director used to help me complete my FAFSA, and she always simplified the process because I didn’t have a parent to help me, so whenever you can help a student who doesn’t really have a parent who has the knowledge or literacy of financial aid to help them complete it, it makes it a little bit easier,” she said.

The workshop is open again on Friday, January 19 from 3-5 p.m. in Room 139 at Morris Library.
