Southern Illinois Veterans Honor Flight lands in Washington D.C.

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS (KBSI) — Eighty-nine local veterans have arrived safely in Washington D.C. this morning as part of Mission 14 of the Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois. The veterans will spend the day touring monuments and landmarks in the nation’s capital, including the Korean War Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial.

Veterans participating in Mission 14 are visiting three iconic memorials in the nation’s capital, honoring the courage and sacrifice of those who served.

The veterans are stopping at the Korean War Memorial, featuring striking soldier sculptures; the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, offering a solemn space for reflection; and the Lincoln Memorial, a timeless symbol of unity and hope.

Each stop provides an opportunity to honor, reflect and connect with the stories of service and sacrifice that shaped the nation.
The group will return home tonight, with a welcome home ceremony planned.
