Sports camp for limb different kids comes to small town in Illinois

DU QUOIN, Il. (KBSI) – A four-day sports camp for limb different children will be hosted in southern Illinois this July.
NubAbility® Athletics Foundation is hosting a summer camp in Du quoin, for its eleventh year.
The camp will run July 12th through July 16th.
Instructors are athletes from around the world and they will match youth athletes with coaches who have similar physical differences for instruction in 19 mainstream, organized sports.
The camp is open to children ages four to 17 with congenital or traumatic limb difference, frozen limb or highly mobile cerebral palsy.
Coaches are also unpaid, because all camp coaches must be both limb-different and exceptional athletes, Nub Ability recruits these volunteers from all over the United States – and in some cases, foreign countries – to work with the young campers.
This year, Lucas Santos will come from Brazil to coach swimming, Graham Spero will return from Canada to coach baseball and José Luis Gutiérrez will travel from the Dominican Republic to coach dance.
“It is extraordinary how many people come together to make this experience possible for limb-different kids,” said Kuhnert. “We are very grateful to the many people in our local community as well as to our limb-different coaches for choosing to make a difference.”
Registration will be held at Du Quoin State Fairgrounds, from 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm.
