Sports Zone Jan. 13, 2024: Jim May named head football coach at Sikeston, SIU’s Hill wins FCA Coach of the Year Award

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – For a decade and a half, Jim May roamed the sidelines at Scott City High School, and now he moves on to his next gig at Sikeston High School.
May will take the reigns at Sikeston after 15 years at Scott City. Since 2018, May and the Rams have compiled a 52-18 record.
May has over 20 years of experience in total, and he has taught physical conditioning at each of his last three schools.
May said he brings a positive attitude and an energy that leads to student involvement, and he strives to make sure all students and athletes achieve their goals and enjoy the journey.
One of his hallmarks is his fast-paced practices, and as he said in a 2022 interview with Fox 23, this intensity in practice makes the games that much more enjoyable.
“We practice fast, and we practice hard, and games seem easier, and you should enjoy them. That’s what we do. We work hard to enjoy Friday night, and that’s the way you should approach it,” May said.
Southern Illinois University head football coach Nick Hill received the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Grant Teaff Coach of the Year Award this week.
In 2023, Hill led the Salukis to their third playoff appearance in the last four seasons and a final national ranking of No. 12.
In addition to team success, the award recognizes a football coach “who exemplifies Christian principles and involvement and support of the FCA.”
