MT. VERNON, Ill. (KBSI) – The State Fire Marshal is investigating a fire at a home in Mt. Vernon that happened Monday night.
Multiple fire departments responded to fire at a home on Richview Road in Mount Vernon around 8:39 p.m. on August 19.
The Jefferson Fire Protection District #1 responded along with automatic aid from Mt. Vernon Fire Department, Woodlawn Fire Protection Distrtict, Kell Fire Protection Distrtict, Centralia Fire Protection Distrtict, Litton Ambulance and (change of quarters) Waltonville Fire Protection Distrtict, Webber Fire Protection Distrtict and later Wayne Fire Protection Distrtict were dispatched for the residential structure fire at the full still level.
A caller reported a fire in an attached garage with it spreading to the house. The caller reported everyone was out of the home.
The first arriving chief officer and Mt. Vernon engine found the attached garage with heavy fire that shortly worked through the roof and extended to the adjacent living space.
Jefferson’s engine arrived shortly after and established a water supply from a hydrant across the road. That shut Richview Road down.
Crews simultaneously began exterior and interior operations using three hand lines to stop spread of the fire. The garage portion of the house was a total loss, according to Jefferson Fire Protection District #1 firefighters.
The rest of the house had smoke damage. Fire damage was in the kitchen area that was adjacent to the garage.
Webber and United Medical Response were both moved up to the scene to provide assistance.
In total six chief officers and 25 firefighters with 11 fire apparatus responded to the scene.
No one was injured.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Office of State Fire Marshal.
