STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo., (KBSI) — Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital (SGCMH) announced Tuesday that it will undergo a strategic restructuring to stabilize its finances and strengthen long-term sustainability.

As part of the plan, the hospital will close its Labor and Delivery Department and Home Health Department, while also restructuring some staffing areas.

“These decisions were not made lightly,” said Steve Henson, CEO of SGCMH. “While these services are important, they have seen declining demand and rising costs that make them no longer viable for our hospital to sustain. This restructuring is necessary to ensure we remain financially stable and can continue serving our community for years to come.”

The restructuring plan is aimed at returning the organization to positive net revenues, expanding high-demand services such as outpatient surgery and women’s wellness, and remaining competitive in staff compensation to retain and recruit healthcare professionals.

Hospital leadership said employees affected by the changes will be supported with transparency, respect and assistance, including internal placement options where available.

“This is not a step back from our mission,” Henson said. “It represents a new chapter of growth and resilience for SGCMH. We are positioning ourselves to continue delivering high-quality, accessible healthcare in a way that is financially and operationally sustainable.”

Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital is a county-owned, rural facility that has faced financial challenges similar to many rural hospitals nationwide. Leaders emphasized that community support and collaboration will be essential during the transition.
