Steele firefighters contain overnight structure fire on Polk Street

STEELE, Mo., (KBSI) — The Steele Fire Department responded to a structure fire just before midnight Feb. 4 on Polk Street, according to a release from the department’s public affairs officer.
Fire crews arrived to find heavy fire conditions, with flames visible through the roof of the structure. Firefighters were able to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby residences. No injuries were reported.
Officials thanked the Cooter Volunteer Fire Department for assisting with coordination efforts, including arranging support from the Red Cross for displaced occupants.
Fire officials said the incident serves as a reminder of how quickly a fire can overwhelm a structure, emphasizing the importance of working smoke alarms, early detection and having a practiced escape plan.
