Stinson Memorial Public Library hosts Annabelle Festival Book Sale
ANNA, Ill. (KBSI) – Book sales proved benefits to not only libraries, but to those who visit them.
Rose Hogan, a Friends of the Library board volunteer at Stinson Memorial Public Library, says book sales help libraries like Stinson greatly.
“It gives them an opportunity to move books that have been in their circulation, but haven’t been checked out in a while, to clear those out and make room for new books to go onto the shelves,” she said. “It’s always good to have fresh material.”
Hogan also said sales like the one the library hosted Friday through Sunday provides a chance for visitors to the library to discover something new.
“A lot of people will come to the book sale and pick up a new author that they haven’t read, and then they come into the library to check out what else is on the shelves by that same author,” she said.
Friends of the Library member Andrea Witthoft said one of her favorite parts of the library’s book sales is the families that come in.
“The children’s books and fiction books are very popular,” she said. “We love to see all of our families from Union County and from outside our area come and purchase books for them to use in their homes.”
Both Hogan and Witthoft have lived in the area for decades, so this library is a special place for both of them.
“I’ve been coming here since we moved to the area in 1980,” Hogan said.
“After I retired, I wanted to do something to give back to my community, and that’s one of the reasons why I’m here as a member of the friends at Stinson Memorial Library,” Witthoft said.
So, whether you come to book sales to grab some books for your child’s summer reading program, to discover a new author, or for any other reason, you are helping the library and helping yourself.
