Power outage, road closure reports 5/27

(KBSI) – Severe storms rolled through the FOX23 viewing area Sunday evening leaving a path of destruction.

Monday afternoon, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear shared that a 54-year-old man died from a heart attack while cutting fallen trees in Caldwell County.

The Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities have more than 100 workers trying to restore power in Sikeston on Monday. Residents are warned that as crews bring services back online they may lose power shortly while they make those connections safely.

As of 7:45 a.m. Sunday, every customer’s meter (8,748) was offline and without power. Monday, power has been restored to more than 5,500 meters. More than 100 crew members continue to work on Memorial Day to fix the storm damage and get power restored. Kennett’s City Light Gas & Water crews came to help as well as contractors from JF Electric and Endrizzi.

Ameren Missouri and Ameren Illinois reported some outages.

At 9:45 p.m. on Sunday – Egyptian Electric Cooperative Association reported a downed tree took out the south circuit of west Carbondale, but power has now been restored for those members. Currently, around 400 members are still without power across their service territory.

SEMO Electric reports several outages. More than 108 distribution poles and 30 transmission poles need to be replaced, resulting in outages across the region.

  • 9:01 p.m. – Highway T near Puxico, MO is closed from Hwy. 51 to Hwy. J due to flooding.
  • 8:14 p.m. – tornado near Fredonia, KY in Caldwell County, KY
  • 8:05 p.m – trees uprooted and fell on house in Fruitland, MO
  • 8:05 p.m – trees uprooted in Herrin, IL
  • 8 p.m. – power lines down in Stritz in Williamson County, IL
  • 7:40 p.m. – trees blown down on vehicles in Sam A. Baker Park in Wayne County, MO
  • 7:35 p.m. – water covering road in Van Buren, MO

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 1 Highway crews are working to clear roads after trees were toppled over and power lines downed from two organized lines of thunderstorms moving through the region Sunday morning.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 1 Highway Crews are making rounds to provide updates on roadways after several rounds of strong thunderstorms moved through the region on Sunday.

Motorists should be aware that in many cases downed trees were cut up and pushed over onto right-of-way to open travel lanes. Crews will be out in most counties starting Tuesday to remove debris from right-of-way. Caution is required.

All but one of the remaining closures in KYTC District 1 are due to roadway flooding.

  • KY 1820 is blocked by floodwaters at the 1-2mm – Signs posted
  • KY 1628 is blocked by floodwaters at the 3-4mm – Signs posted

Fulton County

  • KY 94 is blocked by floodwaters at the 7 to 11mm in the Lower Bottom between KY 311 and KY 1099- Signs Posted
  • KY 1282 is blocked by downed trees near the 6mm in the Wilson Hill area west of Brownsville – Equipment to arrive for large tree removal on Tuesday

Hickman County

  • KY 123 is blocked by floodwaters at the 14 to 16mm in the Hailwell area at the Obion Creek Bridge – Signs posted

Lyon County

  • KY 1943/Skinframe Creek Road is blocked by floodwaters at the 3.4mm at the Skinframe Creek Bridge
  • KY 274 is blocked at the 3 to 4mm to allow Pennyrile Electric and a contractor to repair utility lines – Estimated duration is 3 hrs

McCracken County

  • KY 1255/Bonds Rd is blocked by floodwaters at the 1 to 2mm immediately west of the KY 450/Oaks Rd intersection – Signs posted

Marshall County

  • KY 1463/Benton-Birmingham Rd Closed by flooding at 0 to 2mm at Clarks River Bridge – Signs posted
  • All others reported as open
