BENTON, Ky., (KBSI) — A student was arrested Tuesday after a rifle was found inside a vehicle at Marshall County High School, according to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said a school resource officer was conducting routine security checks in the school parking lot when ammunition was observed on the dashboard of a vehicle. The officer then saw a .22-caliber rifle in the back seat.

On Feb. 10, 2026, Keaton Holland, 18, of Calvert City, Kentucky, was arrested at the high school and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school property, a Class D felony.

Officials said the firearm was not brought inside the school building and there is no indication any threats were made toward students or staff. The student was cooperative during the investigation.

The sheriff’s office said the situation was handled quickly in coordination with school administrators and emphasized that student safety remains a top priority.
