Summer electric rates to increase for Ameren customers

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — The city has announced this year’s electric rates through its aggregation program with Homefield Energy, comparing them to Ameren’s summer rates.

Residents received letters explaining the program and providing an opt-out option. More information is available at (link unavailable)

Ameren’s summer rates will increase by roughly 50% from June 1 to Sept. 30, going from around 8 cents per kWh to around 12 cents per kWh. This will result in an approximately 18% to 22% total bill increase for typical residential customers.

The supply price increase is due to a regional grid operator’s annual capacity auction, which showed lower available surplus capacity for summer months.
