Summer programs offer rewards to get kids reading

(KBSI) – Several libraries and some restaurants are offering programs to get kids off of electronic devices with reading incentive programs.
Public libraries that are hosting reading programs:
- Cape Public Library – Pick up a reading log sheet at the front desk to fill out and return. Once a reading task is completed the child’s name will be entered into a drawing to win prizes.

- Bicycles (Ages 12 and under)
- Gift cards and a Kindle Fire (Ages 12-18)
- Weekly prize give aways are also drawn.

- Chaffee Public Library- Pick up a reading form, once completed your child can be entered into a drawing for a free Kindle Fire 7.
- Sikeston Public Library – Their summer reading program is called “Libraries Rock!” The library provides scheduled event days and special guest or character days to get kids excited about reading. A summer reading party is also held in July.
- Riverside Library of Scott City- Children may fill out a reading log or attend special events at the library. The reading log also enters the child’s name into a drawing for prizes.
- Barnes and Noble- Offers an online journal to log in your child’s reading time. Read 8 different books of your choice, write about the book and bring your journal into Barnes and Noble and your child will get to pick out a free book off a selected list.
Restaurants with summer reading programs:
- Pizza Hut – Camp Book It! You can download the digital version or print out a form to fill out with a monthly reading goal. Once the goal is met your child can redeem at your local Pizza Hut for a free pizza!
- Panda Express – Panda Express offers an online Panda Cub Club. Children can sign up and read and complete tasks to earn free Panda Express meals.
