Suspect arrested after stolen vehicle recovered in Williamson County

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — A suspect was taken into custody Monday after deputies recovered a stolen vehicle in Williamson County.
According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at 4:53 a.m. Dec. 15 to a report of a stolen vehicle in the 500 block of Hickory Street in Bush. Later that morning, at about 11:14 a.m., deputies located the stolen Honda Civic in the 2500 block of Skyhawk Road near Carbondale.
William D. Basenberg Jr. was found in possession of the vehicle and taken into custody.
Authorities said Basenberg was on pretrial release in an unrelated case at the time and was wearing a court-ordered GPS ankle monitor. A review of GPS data placed him at the location of the vehicle when it was reported stolen.
Basenberg was cited for possession of a stolen vehicle, a Class 2 felony, and theft, a Class 3 felony. He was transported to and remanded to the Williamson County Jail.
