Suspect arrested in Mayfield stabbing, facing assault charge

MAYFIELD, Ky., (KBSI) – A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing that occurred Aug. 24 on the 200 block of North Fourth Street in Mayfield.
Police said officers arrived to find a 39-year-old male victim with a stab wound to the back. First responders provided aid before the victim was taken to Jackson Purchase Medical Center, then flown by Air Evac to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, a Level 1 trauma center. He was reported in stable condition.
Investigators identified the suspect as Victor Manuel Moya-Hernandez, 39, of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was later located at a hotel in Cairo, Illinois, where local police, along with deputies from Ballard County, Kentucky, and Alexander County, Illinois, assisted in taking him into custody without incident.
Moya-Hernandez is being held at the Pulaski County Detention Center in Illinois, pending extradition to Graves County. He faces a charge of first-degree assault.
The Mayfield Police Department was assisted by the Mayfield Fire Department, Graves County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky State Police, Ballard County Sheriff’s Office, Cairo Police Department and Alexander County Sheriff’s Department.
