Suspect who led deputies on chase arrested in Cape Girardeau
CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man on April 6 who deputies say led them on a chase on March 27.
Deputies with the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office saw Austin T. Burton, 26, who is confirmed to have a federal warrant driving a vehicle southbound on US Highway 61 in Fruitland around 2:11 p.m. on Monday, March 27.
Deputies tried to pull him over, but Burton drove away from the deputies according to the sheriff’s office.
That led to a police chase. Spike strips were used to try to stop the vehicle, but were ineffective.
The chase continued and entered south Cape Girardeau where deputies lost sight of Burton.
The vehicle Burton was driving was found in Cape Girardeau a short time later.
On the afternoon of April 6, deputies from the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by federal and local agencies, arrested Burton outside an apartment in south Cape Girardeau.
He was taken to the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office where he will face charges.
