Suspicous fire that destroyed Kennett home under investigation

KENNETT, Mo. (KBSI) – The Kennett Fire Department and seven other fire department fought a suspicious house fire Sunday.
The Kennett Fire Department was dispatched to 217 S. Jackson at 5:35 p.m. on July 2. The first crew arrived on scene at 5:39 p.m. and found a heavy fire on the first floor, according to Fire Marshal Dennis Hamlett with the Kennett Fire Department.
The fire department immediately called for mutual aid. A total of eight departments responded to fire the fire.
Temperatures were 101 degrees when firefighters fought the blaze. Three ambulances responded to the scene and treated four firefighters on the scene for heat related injuries.
Forty-five minutes after the first crew arrived on scene, Hamlett says the attic and roof collapsed.
No one was home at the time the fire started. The home was built in 1903.
