Tactical units execute search warrant in Cape Girardeau neighborhood
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) — A Cape Girardeau neighborhood turned into a scene of high activity as tactical units executed a search warrant tied to an ongoing investigation.
The Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force, with assistance from the Cape Girardeau Special Response Team, carried out the search. Witnesses say they awoke to loud noises and commands from law enforcement.
“I was woken up to a loud banging outside,” one resident told FOX23 News. “Then I heard someone shout, ‘Police, open up,’ and I knew something serious was happening.”
Neighbors reported seeing more than a dozen officers in tactical gear, enter a home and detain individuals. Despite the eventful entrance, witnesses said the situation was handled quickly and calmly.
Authorities have not disclosed what was seized or the identities of the individuals. The SEMO Drug Task Force, continues to investigate drug trafficking in the region.
Residents say while the morning’s events were surprising, they don’t feel unsafe in the area. “99.9% of the time, everything’s fine here,” a neighbor said. “This feels like a one off thing.”
No further details have been released at this time. The investigation remains on going.
