Tariffs could mean pricier firework displays this July 4

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – As citizen’s and families gear up for the Fourth of July, they may want to consider firework prices.
According to the American Pyrotechnics Association around 95% of consumer fireworks used in the United States are imported from China.
With trade tensions a new round of tariffs on Chinese goods including fireworks as led to an increase for wholesale and retail prices.
Matt Rolwing is the owner of Stump Buster Fireworks located in the parking lot of SADI in Cape Girardeau.
He says although they’ve seen a few price hikes from tariffs this year it hasn’t had a huge impact yet because many places buy their fireworks in bulk a year ahead of time.
Rolwing says the percent they charge extra for tariff cost is a little all over place.
“We have started to see some of the tariffs go up, some of them go down. It’s very hit or miss as far as what they’re wanting to charge us” says Rolwing.
So, will tariffs affect firework prices in the us this year? Rowling says a little bit but not enough to raise consumer prices just yet, but next year may be a different story.
“You’ll see a lot of our price cards have been the same for the last 3-4 years that we’ve been here. Which is awesome because we’ve still been providing the really good quality for the really good price that we’ve had” says Rolwing.
