Teen driver killed after fleeing law enforcement in St. Francois County

ST. FRANCOIS COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) – A 16-year-old girl from Bonne Terre was killed Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash while fleeing from law enforcement, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:21 a.m. on Oct. 11 on southbound U.S. Highway 67, just north of Highway 32. Authorities said the teen was driving a 2013 Buick Enclave when she attempted to avoid stop sticks placed in the roadway by officers. The vehicle veered off the west side of the road, went down a steep embankment, overturned and ejected the driver.
The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:23 a.m. by Dr. Kernan. Her name has not been released due to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s policy on identifying juveniles in crash reports.
The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Marler’s Towing.
The crash remains under investigation. Trooper L.C. Coleman led the investigation, with assistance from Corporals K.D. Roney and D.A. Crowell, as well as the Park Hills Police Department, Farmington Police Department, and deputies from the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Office.
