MEMPHIS, Tenn., (KBSI) — About 20 soldiers with the Tennessee National Guard assisted local authorities overnight during a large commercial fire in East Memphis.

The soldiers, assigned to the 253rd Military Police Company and serving with the Memphis Safe Task Force, supported the Memphis Police Department and the Memphis Fire Department at the scene.

Guardsmen conducted traffic control, assisted firefighters with hoses and chainsaws and helped remove a fence to provide crews with better access to the fire.

During the response, Sgt. Christopher Rounsefell rescued a dog found on the property and brought it to safety, officials said.
