15th annual Southern Illinois Boat & Fishing Show takes place in Marion

MARION, Ill. (KBSI) – The 15th annual Southern Illinois Boat & Fishing Show took place at The Pavilion in Marion, Ill. from February 2-4.

The event is sponsored by the organization Visit SI, with proceeds going to local charities.

“We have two charities this year,” said Executive Director Ashlee Spiller. “We have Gumdrops of Southern Illinois, and then we also have CASA of Southern Illinois.”

The organization suggests visitors donate canned goods and non-perishable items for the local food pantry.

“This show was built to give back to the community,” said Spiller. “We have over 40 plus vendors here this weekend.”

James Faught, owner of Midwest Kayaking Company, happens to be one of those vendors. He recalls visiting last year’s show as a spectator and is now pleased to have his business be a part of this year’s gathering.

“It has been busy all day,” said Faught. “We sold some accessories. We sold some kayaks today. We met a lot of cool people. We talked about fishing and outdoors.”

He mentions the show’s success being due to most of the attendees having an interest in fishing or boating.

“For us being in the fishing industry, it’s really good because you find people to fish with, you find out little secrets and spots. It just works,” said Faught.

With many businesses having much success with networking and connections, Faught says it is no question whether or not he will be returning.

“It’s been wonderful for us. I’m glad Visit SI puts this on because it does get people engaged in the community and I will be back in 2025,” said Faught.

Admission and parking was free to the public.
