3rd annual Pride in the Park held at Capaha Park

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Sunday in Cape Girardeau, community members flocked to Capaha Park to celebrate the 3rd annual “Pride in the Park” event.

Every year, Pride in the Park brings community businesses and vendors out in support. And this year was no different, with many people attending the event throughout the day.

Maurice Carter, Mr. Independence Place and one of the event organizers, says that this event is meant for everyone in the community to come, have fun, and show their support.

“There is tremendous support within the community and I think that is really important especially when you put on this type of event you’ve got to have that community support,” said Carter.

The impact of an event like “Pride in the Park” could be seen by all ages, as attendees were smiling and enjoying the positive atmosphere.

Carry Keen brought her girlfriend Rachel Merryman to the event, which was her first Pride in the Park.

“I love it, especially being in such a kind of country community you know people can kind of be a little close-minded so it’s always nice going out in the community and seeing all the support and the love,” said Keen.

With this being only the third year of Pride in the Park, Carter believes the event will only grow as others share their experience.

“I think it gives people a chance to not only come out and just be themselves but just mingle with other people,” said Carter.
