The Blue Collar Tour visits Cape Girardeau
CAPE GIRARDEAU Mo. (KBSI) – The Blue Collar Tour made its way to the Career & Technology Center on February 26.
The Tour is presented by Western Welding Academy, based in Gillette Wyoming. The goal of the organization’s 2-month travel is to get high school students interested in blue collar trades.
Tyler Sasse, Founder and CEO of Western Welding Academy says, “These kids, they are the future, and if we don’t take the time to really invest in them, who will?”
Monday’s visit consisted of a tour bus, welding rig, and trailer full of giveaways; with the event lasting 4-6 hours.
The goal here for us, at Western Welding Academy, is to communicate to the kids. Like what is available? What’s out there? What are their options?” Said Sasse.
Hands-on welding demonstrations are offered to attendees, as well as tool giveaways. Instructors are available to enlighten prospective students on the benefits of Blue Collar Trades.
Sasse mentions that he enjoys witnessing positive results from students who simply started off being curious about the welding field. He says, “That’s like the silver lining of this job. It’s the icing on the cake. Hearing the success stories from our students. I love it when they follow up about a year after they’ve graduated.”
He also says a career in welding is a very promising one. “They talk about different things they’ve been able to buy, how they’ve got great jobs. We’ve got graduates that are buying a home for their parents, or funding their retirement. It’s just incredible to see, and I’m really big on results.”
