WESTERN KENTUCKY — Thorpedo Anna, raised in the Bluegrass region, continues reigning as Horse of the Year, delivers a commanding performance in the Grade 2, $400,000 Azeri Stakes at Oaklawn, winning by 3 1/2 lengths.

The 4-year-old filly, a talented daughter of the late sire Fast Anna, is trained by Kenny McPeek.

It is a proud partnership that includes her breeder, Judy Hicks, McPeek’s wife Sherri (Magdalena Racing), and Kentucky attorney Mark Edwards.

She has now won nine of her 11 career starts, including seven graded stakes victories.

Her impressive resume earned her the 2024 Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year, Champion Three-Year-Old Filly, and a unanimous choice for the latter.

In a savvy move, McPeek purchased Thorpedo Anna for a modest $40,000 at the 2022 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall Yearling Sale, a bargain that has yielded immense returns.

Thorpedo Anna has consistently demonstrated her exceptional talent, earning her place among the top fillies in the country.

Her victories in the Fantasy Stakes, Kentucky Oaks, Acorn, Coaching Club American Oaks, Cotillion, and Breeders’ Cup Distaff have solidified her position as a champion.

Thorpedo Anna’s next target is the $1.25 million Apple Blossom Handicap on April 12 at Oaklawn, a key step towards a potential Breeders’ Cup title defense.

McPeek has hinted at bringing Thorpedo Anna back for a 5-year-old campaign, providing fans with more opportunities to witness her exceptional talent.

With her remarkable record and undeniable talent, Thorpedo Anna continues to captivate the racing world.

Her dominance in the Azeri Stakes serves as a testament to her enduring excellence, and fans eagerly anticipate her next start.
