Three arrested after dispute turns violent at Carbondale business

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Carbondale police arrested three people Tuesday after responding to a reported disturbance at a business on North Washington Street.

Officers were dispatched at about 5:29 p.m. Feb. 24 to the 100 block of North Washington Street after receiving a panic alarm. Police said three suspects entered the store following a dispute with employees regarding the business’s merchandise return policy.

According to authorities, the suspects battered store employees, causing minor injuries, and then fled in a vehicle. Officers later located and detained the three individuals in the 700 block of South Lewis Lane.

Police arrested Keith L. Smith, 33, and Keenan J. Reliford, 32, both of Carbondale, on charges of aggravated battery and mob action. Both were taken to the Jackson County Jail pending detention hearings.

A third suspect was released without charges after officers determined he was not physically involved in the altercation.

Officers also arrested Kellie S. Loucks, 32, of Carbondale, on a charge of concealing or aiding a fugitive. Loucks was also lodged in the Jackson County Jail pending a detention hearing.
