SIKESTON, Mo., (KBSI) — Three people were injured in a structure fire late Tuesday night in Sikeston, including two who were later flown to a specialty burn unit, authorities said.
The Sikeston Department of Public Safety responded to the fire late Tuesday, Jan. 27, at a residence in the 600 block of East Gladys. Officers arriving on scene reported heavy flames coming from the front of the home and confirmed that occupants were still inside.
Fire personnel entered the residence through a window and located one occupant in a rear bedroom. Crews worked to extricate the individual, creating a larger opening in the bedroom wall to complete the rescue. The occupant was removed from the home and transported to a local hospital for emergency care.
Other occupants were able to exit the residence on their own and were assisted by the South Scott County Ambulance District. Two occupants were later flown from the hospital to a specialty burn unit for further treatment.
Authorities said all occupants are in stable condition. Their identities were not released.
The Sikeston Department of Public Safety thanked its officers and fire personnel for their response and also acknowledged assistance from the South Scott County Ambulance District, the Scott County Rural Fire Protection District and the Morehouse Fire and Rescue Department.
The cause of the fire was not immediately released.
