SHANNON COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) agents have charged three individuals in connection with an investigation into illegally killed and dumped deer in Shannon County.

In early September, MDC agents received reports of three headless deer carcasses found dumped along County Road 651. Investigators also obtained a social media photo showing three individuals posing with three dead whitetail bucks near the same area.

With assistance from information provided through Operation Game Thief (OGT), agents secured a search warrant and interviewed the suspects. The investigation led to the seizure of 12 illegal deer heads, one illegal turkey beard, a firearm, and other evidence.

Multiple charges have been filed with the Shannon County Prosecutor’s Office against the three individuals.

MDC officials credited the public’s cooperation with helping to solve the case.

“The importance of public assistance cannot be overstated in cases like this,” MDC said in a statement. “Tips from citizens play a vital role in protecting Missouri’s wildlife.”

Anyone with information about wildlife violations is encouraged to contact their local conservation agent or call Operation Game Thief at 1-800-392-1111.
