Traffic stop ends in drug fentanyl drug arrest

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A traffic stop ended with a woman arrested and accused of having Fentanyl.
Tonya L. Shadowens faces charges of possession of controlled substance, no valid driver’s license, improper lane usage.
Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies saw a vehicle traveling westbound on Illinois Route 13 near Briggs Road when it committed multiple traffic violations on February 27 around 7:03 p.m.
They conducted a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Tonya L. Shadowens.
While speaking with Shadowens, deputies saw her to appear nervous and display unusual behavior which included speaking rapidly and rambling, erratic physical behavior which included nodding her head wildly, smacking her lips repeatedly, and gesticulating wildly with her arms.
Deputies say her drivers license had expired in 2017.
A Williamson County K9 Unit arrived on scene. K9 “Shadow” conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle which resulted in a positive alert to the odor of narcotics.
Deputies conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and found a digital scale and a white powdery substance which later field tested positive for Fentanyl.
Shadowens was told she was under arrest, handcuffed and seated in a patrol vehicle.
Shadowens faces charges of possession of controlled substance, no valid driver’s license, improper lane usage.
Shadowens was taken to the Williamson County Jail.
