Traffic stop in Herrin leads to arrests of driver and girlfriend
WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — A traffic stop in Herrin led to the arrest of two individuals, including the driver’s girlfriend, who allegedly obstructed deputies.
Deputies with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop at 9:56 p.m. March 9 near the intersection of West Oak Street and South 27th Street after observing a vehicle operating without registration.
The driver, Devante R. Taylor, was found to have a suspended driver’s license and was arrested. As deputies conducted an inventory of the vehicle, Taylor’s girlfriend, Denieshia J. Childress, arrived on the scene and began yelling and screaming at deputies.
Despite repeated warnings to back away, Childress allegedly obstructed deputies five times, prompting her arrest.
Taylor was cited for driving while his license was suspended, a Class A misdemeanor, and no valid registration, a petty offense.
Childress was cited for obstructing a peace officer, a Class A misdemeanor.
Both were transported to the Williamson County Jail.
