Traffic stop leads to arrest of Illinois man now facing charges of drug possession

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A traffic stop led to the arrest of an Illinois man who now faces charges of drug possession.

According to Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, on October 10, 2024 deputies conducted a traffic stop in Creal Springs after deputies say they observed the driver commit a traffic violation.

The driver was identified as Benjamin S. Murphy. Deputies said they found Tramadol – a controlled substance – in a plastic bag and methamphetamine on Murphy, and a glass pipe used for smoking meth in his vehicle.

Murphy faces charges of:

– Possession of Methamphetamine
– Possession of Controlled Substance
– Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
– Driving While License Suspended
– Improper Lane Usage
– Operating Uninsured Vehicle

Murphy was arrested and transported to Williamson County Jail.
