MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) – A Madisonville woman was arrested late Friday night following a traffic stop that escalated into a brief struggle with deputies.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Caleb Cope initiated a traffic stop on a 2000 green Kia Sephia around 11:23 p.m. on October 24 along Metropolis Lake Road for a traffic infraction.

During the stop, Deputy Cope reportedly heard the sound of glass hitting the pavement near where the driver, identified as Kerstain Wilson, 40, was standing. A glass smoking pipe was later found beneath the deputy’s patrol vehicle, which investigators say Wilson had thrown.

When the deputy attempted to take Wilson into custody, she resisted arrest, resulting in a brief altercation. Wilson was subdued, taken into custody, and transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the incident.

Wilson was charged with tampering with physical evidence, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or substances, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia (buy/possess), possession of an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle, and disregarding a stop sign.
