Traffic stop leads to drug arrest in Williamson County

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces drug charges after a traffic stop in Williamson County.

Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies saw a vehicle commit a traffic violation on January 7 at 7:38 p.m.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop and recognized the people in the vehicle from prior police contact.

Deputies found a clear, crystalline substance in the rear passenger door handle that field tested positive for methamphetamine.

A probable cause search was conducted on a passenger, identified as Dakota D. Whitlock. Deputies found a plastic bag containing a clear, crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine.

The substance did not field test positive for methamphetamine. Deputies identified it as a look-a-ike substance due to its packaging and physical appearance.

Whitlock told deputies that he knew he possessed the look alike substance and that he intended to sell it as methamphetamine to make money, according to Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies.As the result of a separate, independant, and ongoing investigation Whitlock was arrested for delivery of methamphetamine.

Whitlock faces charges of delivery of methamphetamine and possession of look alike substance with intent to deliver.

Whitlock was taken to the Williamson County Jail.
