Traffic stop leads to drug bust

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A women faces multiple charges after a traffic stop lead to finding drugs.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office on December 13, 2024, at 8:42 pm Deputies with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office saw a vehicle in the area of Dr. Springs Road and Mayor Caliper Road (Colp), when it didn’t stop for a stop sign and the driver threw a cigarette out the window.

A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was identified as Devin L. Switzer, who was known to Deputies from prior law enforcement contact.

A check of Switzer’s driver’s license discovered she was on parole (mandatory supervised release) from the Illinois Department of Corrections.

While completing the traffic stop a Williamson County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit arrived on scene and k9 “Shadow” was deployed to conduct a free air sniff of the vehicle.

K9 “Shadow” provided a positive alert to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle.

A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted which located a cannabis smoking device and a cell phone covered in a crystalline residue that later field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Switzer was informed that a female Deputy was on the way to conduct a more thorough search of her person.

Switzer then informed Deputies that she was in possession of methamphetamine hidden inside her bra.

A female Deputy arrived on scene and collected the methamphetamine from Switzer’s person.

Switzer faces charges for the following:

Possession of Methamphetamine

Disobeying Stop Sign

Littering


Switzer was arrested and taken to the Williamson County Jail.
