Traffic stop turns into stolen firearm, marijuana arrest in Graves County

MAYFIELD, Ky. (KBSI) – A Murray man faces charges after a sergeant with the Graves County Sheriff’s Office found a stolen firearm and marijuana.
James P. Davis, 37, of Murray faces charges of receiving stolen property – firearm, possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia – buy/possess and traffic offense.
Sgt. Richard Edwards with the Graves County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on KY 80 East, just East of Mayfield on September 24 about 11:30 a.m.
During the stop, Sgt. Edwards found a firearm in possession of the driver.
A check of the serial number on the firearm showed that it had been reported stolen to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Edwards also found a small amount of marijuana on the driver, according to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office.
Davis was taken to the Graves County Restricted Custody Center.
The firearm will be returned to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office so it can be returned to the rightful owner.
