TVA awards $20,000 in grants to Obion County schools

OBION COUNTY, Tenn., (KBSI) — Ridgemont Elementary School and Hillcrest Elementary School in Obion County have been awarded $10,000 each through the TVA EnergyRight School Uplift program.

The program, a partnership between the Tennessee Valley Authority and local power companies, helps public schools reduce energy waste and improve the learning environment.

The grants are part of a larger effort by TVA to support energy efficiency in schools across seven southeastern states. Since its inception, the School Uplift program has helped over 323 schools reduce energy consumption and save money.

“We are incredibly thankful to be selected for the TVA School Uplift grant,” said Melissa Merritt, principal of Ridgemont Elementary. “Programs like this are vital for rural schools like Ridgemont, where every dollar counts.”

Both schools will use the funding to make energy-efficient improvements and enhance the learning environment.

TVA EnergyRight, Union City Energy Authority, and Gibson Electric Membership Corporation are currently recruiting schools for the 2026-2027 school year.
