SIKESTON, Mo., (KBSI) — Two people were arrested early Wednesday morning in Sikeston on drug and related felony charges following an investigation by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 12:15 a.m. to a residence on County Road 448 while attempting to locate April Star Shivers, who had multiple outstanding warrants and was known to frequent the address.
Authorities say deputies made contact with Michael D. Coleman as he exited a vehicle at the residence. During the encounter, deputies observed Shivers inside the vehicle. Coleman allegedly failed to comply with lawful commands and attempted to enter the residence before being taken into custody.
During a search incident to arrest, deputies located a clear plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine in Coleman’s pocket. Deputies also recovered capsules identified as fentanyl tablets from inside the vehicle.
Coleman is charged with possession of a controlled substance, hindering prosecution and resisting or interfering with arrest for a felony. Bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety.
Shivers was also arrested at the scene. Deputies say a search of Shivers and the vehicle resulted in the seizure of additional capsules identified as fentanyl, blue oval-shaped pills in a plastic container and a pipe-style smoking device that field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Shivers is charged with possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $30,000 cash or surety. Authorities say she also has additional outstanding warrants, including one with no bond.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
