PERRYVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — Two juveniles were rescued and two people were killed Thursday morning after a house fire in Perryville, authorities said.
The Perryville Fire Department responded at about 7:15 a.m. to a report of a residential structure fire in the 700 block of Bruce Street. While en route, firefighters were told that occupants might be trapped on the second floor.
When the first engine company arrived, crews encountered heavy smoke and confirmed that two children were trapped upstairs. Firefighters immediately initiated rescue operations, locating and removing both juveniles before transferring them to Mercy EMS for medical care.
The fire was brought under control, but the home sustained significant fire and water damage. Officials later confirmed two fatalities.
“Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time,” the department said in a statement.
The Perryville Fire Department, Perryville Police Department and the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office are jointly investigating the cause of the fire. Additional questions may be directed to Assistant Chief Garrett Schott.
