Two children struck by gunfire during Caruthersville standoff, highway patrol confirms

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — Two children were struck by gunfire during Thursday night’s standoff in Caruthersville, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Sgt. Clark Parrott with MSHP, confirmed to FOX23 that two children were hit by gunfire during the incident but said investigators do not yet know whose bullets struck the children. Officials also have not released the children’s ages or information about their conditions.
The injuries occurred during an hours long law enforcement response involving a barricaded suspect. Authorities have identified the suspect as Zachary Walker, who was taken into custody after being cornered inside a Caruthersville residence, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Clark Parrott.
FOX23′ Shelby Brown is on scene and observed that a home on the scene was demolished. Authorities have not released details regarding why the structure was torn down.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is leading the investigation.
