Two hospitalized after three-vehicle crash in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Two people were hospitalized after a three-vehicle crash in Carbondale Thursday morning.
Carbondale police responded around 8:09 a.m. to the 1900 block of North Illinois Avenue, where officers found three vehicles involved in a crash that blocked both northbound and southbound lanes.
Police said a vehicle traveling north rear-ended another vehicle, causing the second vehicle to strike a third.
Two people were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The driver of the first vehicle was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Traffic was temporarily diverted while emergency crews cleared the scene. The Carbondale Fire Department assisted with traffic control.
North Illinois Avenue has since reopened.
