CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Two people were taken to a hospital following a three-vehicle crash that blocked North Illinois Avenue in Carbondale Thursday morning.

Carbondale police responded around 8:09 a.m. to the 1900 block of North Illinois Avenue.

Police said a vehicle traveling north rear-ended another vehicle, causing the second vehicle to strike a third.

Two people were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The driver of the first vehicle was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Both northbound and southbound lanes were initially blocked, and traffic was diverted around the crash. The Carbondale Fire Department assisted with traffic control.
