Third arrest made in armed robbery investigation

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) -A third arrest has been made stemming from an armed robbery investigation from October.

According to the Cape Girardeau Police Department on December 9, 2024, Pulaski County, Illinois Sheriff’s Department took the third and final suspect involved in a robbery incident into custody.

He was identified as Chrishon Sawyer age 19 of Villa Ridge, Illinois.

Sawyer was formally charged through the Cape Girardeau County Prosecutors Office with Class A felony of robbery in the first degree, and felony armed criminal action.

Sawyer is currently being held on a $100,000 cash only bond.

Two men have been arrested in association with an armed robbery investigation from October 2024.

A third person was arrested involved in the incident.

According to the probable cause statement on Monday October 28, 2024, around 7:45 pm officers with the Cape Girardeau Police Department responded to South Sprigg Street for a report of an armed robbery.

After arriving officers found a juvenile victim who said that he had been robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot outside his apartment. The victim explained how he was carrying a blue backpack which contained $200.00 in cash and his pay card, and during the robbery those items were taken.

The victim told officers that the robbery suspects were driving a black in color Chrysler 300 passenger car. He also explained how during the robbery he recognized the driver of the car whom he identified as Khamani Rutherford.

The victim stated a subject whom he recognized exited the front passenger seat of the Chrysler and pointed a Glock handgun with an extended magazine at him.

After investigation two suspects were taken into custody on December 5, 2024.

Tristan Mackins age 20 and Khamani Rutherford age 19 were arrested and taken to Cape County Jail.

No injuries were reported from the incident.
