Two positive tests of the Ehrlichiosis virus in humans

ULLIN Ill. (KBSI) – It’s hunting and bonfire season that also brings ticks with a new virus that has two positive cases in our local area.
Over the past few months the Southern Seven Health Department has conducted tick surveillances throughout our region.
Earlier this week we learned from the Illinois Health Officials that there were two ticks. One tick from Harden and the other from Pulaski County that tested positive for the virus.
The Community Outreach Coordinator for the health department tells us to remain careful when going outdoors.
“The two that tested positive for this variant of Ehrlichiosis are found in the lone star tick and while the symptoms of it due mimic the general stomach flu such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chills, sometimes confusion is often accompanied by a rash.”
If you are experiencing stomach flu like symptoms make sure to check for any ticks and see your physician to get prescribed antibiotics.
