Two women arrested in Herrin traffic stop, methamphetamine seized

HERRIN, Ill., (KBSI) — Two women were arrested Tuesday night after Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies found methamphetamine and other controlled substances during a traffic stop in Herrin.

Deputies conducted the stop about 11:39 p.m. Sept. 30 at Poplar and 13th streets after observing a vehicle commit multiple traffic violations, the sheriff’s office said. The driver was identified as Crystal D. Wagner and the passenger as Carrie A. Palmer.

A K-9 unit responded to the scene, and K-9 Roxy alerted to the odor of narcotics. A search of the vehicle turned up methamphetamine, Schedule II and Schedule IV controlled substances, drug packaging materials with residue, and a glass smoking device that tested positive for methamphetamine.

Palmer was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, a Class 3 felony; possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony; possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor; illegal transportation of alcohol, a petty offense; and failure to wear a seat belt, also a petty offense.

Wagner was arrested on charges of possession of adult-use cannabis in a motor vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor; disobeying a stop sign, a petty offense; failing to signal, a petty offense; and operating an uninsured motor vehicle, a business offense.

Both women were taken to the Williamson County Jail.
