WICKLIFFE, Ky. (KBSI) — The U.S. 51 Ohio River Bridge between Wickliffe, Kentucky, and Cairo, Illinois, has reopened to traffic following the completion of repair work.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the bridge reopened at 1:30 p.m. Friday after repairs were completed and inspected. All lanes are now open.

Transportation officials also completed part of the bridge’s required biannual Nonredundant Steel Tension Member inspection during this week’s closure to help reduce future traffic disruptions.

Additional inspection work is scheduled for Monday, July 20, through Friday, July 24. Crews using climbers and an under-bridge inspection vehicle will conduct a hands-on inspection.

Drivers should expect one-lane, alternating traffic from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day during the inspection. Motorists are encouraged to watch for signs, follow directions from flaggers and allow extra travel time.
