United Way of SEMO looking to help those in need for severe winter temperatures
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Director of United Way of Southeast Missouri, Elizabeth Shelton, asks for the public’s help to provide shelter for those in need.
“We’re taking collections through Community Partnership, through Street Level, and through Saint James AME Peoples Shelter,” said Shelton. “I think a lot of people are not aware of the many homeless, and the people who will not have shelter in these next several days. United Way’s mission is connecting people with resources, that’s what we do.”
Shelton says donations will go toward hotel rooms to provide shelter for those who are displaced.
There continues to be a struggle every year to place those in need away from life threatening situations.
With a lack of warming shelters across the community, united way wants to help.
Shelton continues to say, “Social Services in this community have been working for years to try to find a solution and resources for our homeless.”
