CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI)- United Way of Southeast Missouri has purchased a building in downtown Cape Girardeau, thanks to donations from supporters. The organization will relocate its operations to 16 N. Spanish St. in April.

United Way of SEMO has identified transportation and childcare as major barriers to employment in the region, crucial for financial security. In response, the organization developed United We Work, which launched in late 2023 and has provided financial literacy training and 1,500 rides to 80 employees at 55 businesses.

The organization has also been planning United for Childcare, a program aimed at supporting families, childcare workers, providers, employers and entrepreneurs. The newly purchased building will house a Community Childcare Resource Center, set to open this summer and offer programs and services to enhance and expand childcare availability.

The building purchase was made possible by decades of generous donations and careful stewardship by volunteers.
